How to Write an Article
To Promote your Website
Since you came across this page you obviously know the importance of writing articles to promote your web site, AKA Article Marketing. One problem that many people have is they do not know how to write an article properly.
I own and operate several article directories and on most days I decline more articles than I approve. If more people knew how to write an article properly it would benefit me because I would have more articles in my directory and it would benefit the author because their articles would be published much faster.
We will start off with some things that you should NOT do when writing an article to promote your site. There are a few things that most article directories do not accept.:
- Do not put your own links in the main body of the article. While some directories do allow you to insert URL's into keywords of your articles, it is not advised. When publishers are looking for articles to publish on their site they are looking at the number of links in the article, for one. If there are several links then why publish it on their site, where it will only drain the PageRank from their own pages.
- Do not use more than one font size. Using several different font sizes will get your article denied in a hurry. This makes your article look...different. Doesn't matter why, its just a good idea not to do this.
- Do not use hard line breaks. This is when you write a sentence and then start a new paragraph. Here is an example:

This is an example of a hard line break. It can be one or even two sentences
but its
obvious. This is the second sentence of my example of a hard line break.
This is the third sentence of my example of a hard line break. Doing this will get
your
article denied quick, fast and in a hurry.
The correct way
This is an example of a good paragraph written in a article that will promote your web site. As you can see there are no hard line breaks at all. All of the sentences stay together. You may also notice I do not indent each paragraph. This is the last line of the first paragraph.
This is first line of the second paragraph. The second paragraph is started when the topic changes a little. This is the second line of the second paragraph and as you can see there are still no hard line breaks. This is how an article should look.
- Keep your word count ABOVE 350 words. Most article directories will not accept anything below 350 words. Some do but you are better off keeping it above that. Publishers also look at the size of article when choosing what articles they will publish on their site. I try to keep my articles over 400 words. But, don't get too crazy. You also want the viewer to stay with you.
People like to scan the Internet. Make the article readible and not extremely time consuming.
- About the Author should be in the About the Author block. May sound funny to some but I see it every single day.
Of course no one is perfect and we will all make mistakes every now and then. I do not penalize anyone if they make an honest mistake, many times I will correct honest mistakes myself without bugging the author.
If you follow the main rules above you cannot go wrong. So, hopefully you know how to write an article to promote your site.
