Internet Marketing Acronyms

Coming up in the Internet marketing community it can be frustrating to hear so many new acronyms. When I first started i had to search for each acronym and then guess what it was. This is why I created the Internet Marketing Acronym Index, Enjoy!

ASP - Application Service Provider - Deploys, hosts and manages access to a packaged application to multiple parties from a centrally managed facility

CPC/PPC - Cost Per Click - Pay Per Click - A common form of advertising where the customer pays a set price for each visitor to their web-site through a specific link.

CPS - Cost Per Sale - A form of advertising where the customer pays a set price for each sale made through a specific link.

CTR - Click Through Ratio - The number of times an ad or link is shown compared to the number of times it was clicked on.

E-Book - Electronic Book - A popular resource in Internet Marketing to learn and grow their business. There are e-books on just about every other topic as well.

eCPM - Effective Cost Per Mille - the cost of every 1,000 ad impressions shown. Gives advertisers an estimate of what they would earn with 1,000 imressions.

HTML - Hyper-Text Mark-Up Language - The code that makes a web-site work.

HTTP - Hyper Text Transfer Protocol - The underlying protocol that tells the web site host what pages to send to the viewer.

IM (Split Meaning) - Instant Messaging - Programs that allow users to instantly message each other.

IM - Internet Marketing - Leveraging the Internet in order to advertise a company or product.

PHP - Hypertext Preprocessor - A server-side, cross-platform, HTML-embedded scripting language.

PLR - Private Label Rights - A common type of articles, templates and ebooks in which you may use and edit but you may not sell or claim full copyright.

PPCSE - Pay Per Click Search Engine - A search engine that charges advertisers a fee for each click the advertiser receives.

PPS - Pay Per Sale - A type of affiliate marketing in which the advertiser is paid a set percentage of the profit made through a sale that was generated by their affiliate link.

PV - Page View - When any given page is open by a viewer. One UV (unique visitor) could create several PV's.

ROS - Run Of Site - A non-targeted advertising technique that provides the advertiser with the opportunity to reach a broad audience by running ads throughout a website.

SE - Search Engine - An Internet tool used to find web-site pages relevant to your search query.

SEO - Search Engine Optimization - A technique used by webmasters to obtain higher search engine placement.

SEP - Search Engine Positioning - The ranking of a web-site page for a given search term on a search engine.

SERPS - Search Engine Result Pages - The page in which the results of a search engine query are displayed.

URL - Uniform Resource Locator - The full web-site address of a given page ie. http://ez-onlinemoney.com/Internet-Marketing-Acronym-Index.html

UV - Unique Visitor - One individual visitor to a web-site. If one person visits several pages on the same site it is still one UV.

WWW - World Wide Web - I think you know this one :-)
