FINALLY Out of Akismet’s Black Hole!

November 13th, 2007 | 15 comments

It’s a huge PAIN IN THE ASS being a blogger who’s blog is marked as spam in Akismet’s spam filter! I finally contacted them yesterday evening and this morning I received a reply stating that my blog has been removed from their filter :)

So watch out, I’m coming to comment on a blog near you ;)

I’ve always received all your spam without any problems at all :-) (no Akismet on my lovely little Nucleus installation).

How about a competition to see if you could crack your way into Bad Behavior LOL!

Gotta run and see how those eggs are coming along…..Spam and Eggs mmm…..

I have a total lack of trust of akismit, yes it filters spam but like google does search there issomething that has me wondering what all the extra data is about and who is the final authority. I’m the final authority on my blog not some guy I never met.

Anyway all that aside my blogs are filtered just fine without said service and dofollow t’boot (in the link field). You have always been quite welcome to visit and share your opinion but hopefully now we will see more of you?

Oh this is bad news (I mean that you can get banned like this).
Do you have any idea on why they marked you as spam? Maybe we can all avoid this trap.

    Josh,

How did you even know about it?

Could you please share so I can make certain that I’m not considered spam?

    Thanks!

@ Lord Matt, I feel the same way, but after a while I just got tired of going through 20, 30 or more spam comments everyday. You’ll definitely be seeing me around more often.

@ Olivier, yep it was annoying. I’m guessing it was someone who didn’t like my comment. I really don’t know that. I don’t go around leaving negative comments, but there has been one or two that could have been seen as negative. I certainly don’t spam anyone though.

@ Chris, several other bloggers told me they had to fish my comments out of their Akismet spam folder.

I don’t think anyone can be certain it won’t happen. There will always be nitwits who like to cause trouble. The good thing is that Akismet was very quick with a resolution.

Josh, congratulations!! And about time. I’m a little peeved that Askimet didn’t listen to me - what it the purpose of being able to despam a comment if Askimet don’t listen to the feedback. Anyway, a very big congrats!

Chris, you’ll know about it if your comments don’t show up on any blogs with Askimet enabled. The blog owner has to find your comments in Askimet’s list and despam it before your comment appears. Not everyone checks their Askimet spam lists carefully (they should), so your comment may be deleted. If you’re in Askimet’s bad books, it’s pretty obvious.

Josh, sorry, didn’t see your answer to Chris before I commented, or I wouldn’t have included mine.

Hey Stephen, thanks! Well I’ve commented on several blogs where my comment eventually appeared so it’s been “despammed” several times, which leads me to believe “despamming” does absolutely nothing, as you pretty much said.

No problem ;) Thanks for backing up my answer with one that was a little more thorough.

I know I am in there. Who do I contact to get out? Where do I go? If you ever see this:)

DayJobNuker, the first thing you need to do is stop leaving abusive comments on other blogs. I’ve seen some pretty childish comments you’ve left on other blogs, mine included (which were deleted.)

Theres nothing wrong disagreeing, but some of comments I’ve seen you leave remind me of my attitude when I was a 13 yo kid!

Once you take care of that problem just send Akismet an email at http://akismet.com/contact/ and request exclusion from their filter.
