A Successful Internet Marketer is a Leader — Are You a Leader?
July 26th, 2007 | 3 commentsWhen I joined the Army February 2002, I went through a shock, as most do. I gained a great deal of respect for the leaders who actually lead and lost a great deal for those who played the role of a leader but never lead.
What I’m talking about is a phrase called a “double standard” and it applies to the Military and civilian life alike.
When I climbed the ranks and began to lead myself, I always remembered those good leaders and did everything I could to help them out.
I ALSO remembered those “leaders” who ACTED the part. They would say all the right things when they needed to but they never did what leaders do!! They had a bunch of chevrons and rockers (rank) but they truly didn’t care about their Soldiers.
So what does a leader do? A leader realizes the needs of those beneath them and they do everything they can to help. They do not take for granted the things that they could get away with if they wanted.
They are always there to help when they can and they do it because they actually C.A.R.E.!!
I eventually made my way up to Platoon Sergeant, although I was only an E5 (SGT), and I always took care of my Soldiers.
As a result they all had a Great deal of respect for me. Still to this day, up to 2 years later for some of them, I get emails from them asking for guidance and also just asking how I’m doing.
So why am I telling you all this crap about my time in the Army? Because it ALL APPLIES to Business, whether online or off.
If you have “double standards” people WILL eventually see them and you’ll be exposed.
The following is a quote from the Non Commissioned Officers Creed. Read it and tell me this — If you lived by that and treated your followers/subscribers/viewers in this way, how popular would you be? How much more exposure would you get?
“Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind — accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient. I am aware of my role as a Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment.”

Nice article Josh. I have found it is possible to be an internet marketing leader in spite of the fact that I never ever talk to anyone. Taking the time to return emails seems to be the one thing people appreciate as that does not happen very often by full time internet marketers.

Thanks Jason and Jeff!
Jeff, I know I was impressed when you returned my first email about a year ago. You’re a great person and definitely a leader in the industry.
