Buying Electronic Products in the Era of Information Overload
September 3rd, 2007 | 3 commentsBeing an ebook publisher myself, this may come as a little hypocritical, but I hope I can get my point across anyway.
Throughout the entire time you’ve been marketing online, how much money have you spent on Ebooks, reports and programs? I’d guess more than you care to calculate.
I got into Internet Marketing while serving in the Army. I was a Sergeant making nearly $3,000.00 a month (after taxes) without any rent payments, utilities, medical…nothing! The only major bill I had was my car payment (If you want to call that major) I also had frequent duty assignments making me much much more money. I was making much more money than the average “newbie” so of course, I spent WAYYYY too much money on ebooks etc.
I wouldn’t say it was a total waste of money. I did learn alot and it helped to grow my business. But, out of all of those products, if I had looked hard enough, would I had found the same information on the web, for Free?? Most likely the answer is yes.
My point is this - Although there are many many many good products out there, 99% of the time you can find the same information online for free. I almost guarantee, the next time you want to learn about a certain topic, just start “googling” a few related keywords and you’ll find loads of blogs that contain just as much good info, if not more for absolutely free.
With so many good resources out there like Andy Beard’s Niche Marketing Blog, Vlad’s Affiliate Marketing Blog, John Andrew’s SEO blog and forums like the Warrior Forum, there is really no reason to buy information anymore.
Instead, spend that money on outsourcing. If you’re no good at web design (like me) pay a good designer to create an awesome header image for you. Have an experienced writer create some informational articles and market your Websites with them. Do something constructive with your money. Don’t spend it on information that’s freely available elsewhere!
OK, now that that’s out of the way, consider buying my Article Marketing Ebook. Just Kidding ![]()

I look on Ebooks a little bit like out-sourcing research
If you are not saving money (based on your earnings $ rate) by investing money in highly specific information, then you should spend the time searching and experimenting yourself.
Use exactly the same equation for your other out-sourcing.

I’ve purchased many ebooks before, but now, before I purchase any information product, I first make sure I absolutely can’t find that information free somewhere on the internet.
Usually, if you do a little digging, you can find more information on your topic of interest for FREE than purchasing an ebook. Ebooks are good though for quick, organized compiled information on a specific topic.

That’s one way to look at it, a good one at that. My point isn’t that we shouldn’t be buying ebooks at all. I still do on occassion when someone appears to be very useful. The point I’m trying to get across here, although I probably could have made it more clear, is that spending money on every new book that comes out could be spent in a wiser way.
By all means, we should be purchasing good products to grow our knowledge. But, so many people fall for the hype and spend money that doesn’t need to be spent. Many of us can afford it, but so many of the “newbies” that can’t really afford it are spending money on all these products when they could be investing that money more wisely.
