The Power of Online Networking in Finding JVs
September 13th, 2007 | One comment
I was just reading a post on Drew McLellan’s Marketing Minute blog that is a great example of the power of online networking and it made me realize what a strong network I’ve built myself, both directly and indirectly.
Sometimes no matter how many times a person is told, they just don’t listen. The reason is not always because they’re stubborn or undisciplined. Sometimes it’s a simple case of “information overload.”
I couldn’t even attempt to count how many techniques that I’ve found to be extremely useful these days, that I was told to do when I first began online but just never did. It wasn’t because I didn’t believe these people, it was because I had so many things coming at me at once that I just didn’t know what to do first.
Out of all of the different things that I should have begun earlier, failing to network with others was definitely the biggest loss. The problem was, I was intimidated, as I honestly didn’t know what I was doing and had no chance of holding an intelligent, IM related, conversation with others.
What I didn’t realize was the fact that you don’t have to be on the same level as someone to get to know them.
There are 3 people I speak to (online) on a regular basis who were brand new to the Internet when I first began speaking with them. Two were customers of one of my products and the other just started contacting me because he was interested in learning. 2 of them are right behind me profit wise and the 3rd is making twice as much as I am right now. Among the many others I speak to on a regular basis, these three squeezed into my network because 1. They were eager to learn and 2. They were patient yet persistent.
Granted, not everyone is going to reply to you. Some successful marketers are just arrogant, while others are just too busy. Some though, like myself, enjoy helping others who realize success takes time and are willing to accept my advice without an argument or complaint about how it’s too hard or too time-consuming. My point is, you will never build a strong network if you don’t try.
The True Power of a Strong Online Network
note: I say “online network” because my primary route is online. I haven’t dragged my butt to any seminars yet, but I can only imagine “offline networking” to be even more effective!
Think of an online network as a group of friends in your own life. Chances are, if you have a plumbing problem, there is someone in your group of friends or family that is a plumber. If there isn’t, there is surely a plumber in your “extended network.” Your extended network is composed of the non-mutual friends of your friends and/or family. The same goes for any other issue you may have. If you have a problem, most likely you can find someone, either in your network or your extended network of friends and family, that can help.
If you can understand the power of a network in your personal life, you can surely understand the power of a strong network online, where the money is made.
I don’t know about you, but I have weakness’s. I’m the worst graphics guy in the world. I also have the hardest time figuring out complicated programs and coding. Luckily, I have several people in my online network who help me out with these things on a regular basis. In return I help them out with their weakness’s. It’s not always about problems though. I regularly help others out in the form of product promotion, linking etc. and they do the same for me.
Look at all the big names in Internet Marketing. Have you noticed how every time “the next big thing” comes out you get separate emails about the same product from all the big names? That’s because they are all in the same network. They cross promote and help each other out.
If you’re a blogger, participating in others blogs and linking to posts that you enjoy are great ways to get to know people and establish solid relationships, that may very well turn into that good karma coming back to you. Tinu wrote a great post about this titled: Socializing, Commenting and Replying.
Chances are you already knew all of this. My hope is that if you haven’t already started communicating with others and building your network, you let this post be a reminder to get started.
As always, if you ever need any advice on anything feel free to contact me. If I can help you out I will. If not I’ll point you in the right direction. I do receive loads of emails on a daily basis, but I never ignore anyone, especially those who are honestly working hard and not seeking something for nothing.

Hey Josh,
You are so right on this on. No matter how smart or how talented any of us are, when we surround ourselves with a network — we amplify our abilities and opportunities. And we get asked to share our value, which we do — then our stock rises.
As long as you enter into it with a genuine desire to connect, help and add value — I believe we will always get even more back. Everybody benefits.
Hard to argue with that.
