Viral Marketing Tips from a Caveman
August 20th, 2007 | One commentIf you’re in the U.S., I know you’ve been seeing those Geiko commercials with the caveman that feels he’s discriminated against lol I’ve been watching those commercials and talking about them for months now and haven’t even thought about the marketing aspect of them.
It’s a pretty big accomplishment when a marketer sees a commercial and talks about it just because it’s catchy and not because of it’s creative marketing.
Today I saw one of the many hilarious commercials but this time they threw a link in there: http://www.cavemanscrib.com/
After visiting that link I was so amused that my wife and I spent about a half hour going through it. I noticed a few Geiko adverts along the way and the whole thing served it’s purpose with me. I didn’t buy car insurance with Geiko, but without even realizing it, I started thinking about my own car insurance and wondering if I could save money through them.
Well, they didn’t get any money from me because I already have cheap car insurance through a military members only company. But, if it weren’t for that I probably would have got a quote for sure.
I can’t even imagine what it cost Geiko to create that, but I’m sure it was well worth it. That’s viral marketing at it’s best.
You get entertainment, while at the same time you’re being served adverts to their company.
Every page you enter has a “email to friend” link and I’m sure it has been clicked thousands of times.
Just another reminder to “think outside the box” and come up with something creative that will brand your product or company, while at the same time generate “link bait” to increase your rankings!
So what can we learn from this caveman?
1. Don’t drink too much or you’ll act stupid.
2. Think outside the box and you’ll get tons of visitors, no matter who you are.

[...] The basic concept is using article marketing, classified ads etc. to promote affiliate products. The name was created because Travis claims “It’s so easy a bum could do it,” similar to Geico’s “It’s so easy a caveman could do it.” [...]
