coComment Review - Link Builder and Comment Organizer

September 18th, 2007 | 10 comments

*edit* Since I posted this review I haven’t received one backlink from CoComment. That leads me to believe that links from there are no longer attributed.

I’ve been hearing about coComment here and there for a while now. I had been planning on taking a look and giving it a shot but I just never got to it until today. With that in mind, please realize that this can’t be a thorough, full-proof review, as I’ve only been using it for a few hours now.

What is coComment?

coComment’s main purpose is to keep track of and organize all of the comments you make on blogs. That in itself is pretty handy, as all blogs don’t use a “notify me of new comments” plugin and even then, when you subscribe to all these posts by email it can clog it up pretty quick. It’s integrated by installing a simple FireFox extension or dragging a button into your bookmarks. Once you’ve done that, it keeps track of all your comments for you…pretty easy. You can also have it open in your sidebar, but i personally value that space and don’t like using the horizontal scroll bar to read every page I go to.

However, it also provides a great opportunity to get links pointing to your blog, as they are followed. I can confirm that, as I’ve noticed several of the comments you guys have added to your coComment account showing up as in-bound links to my posts.

One thing I really like is the “black list” option. You can add certain blogs (John Chow maybe?) to your blacklist, so they don’t receive a link. This is good for those times where you come across an unethical blogger (John Chow maybe?) who blogs about some dumb shit and you just have to put your two cents in, but you don’t want to support the idiot :)

So from what I’ve read in the past about it, and from what I’ve seen so far today, coComment is a win win service. It’s free anyway so you really can’t lose.

Theres a little more to it than what I’ve mentioned (communities and widgets) but that’s all I’ve venture into so far.

While messing with the coComment plugin I just installed, I noticed you can also track conversations without commenting on them, pretty neat.

    Hi Josh,

Thanks for this tip. So far, does this help with increased backlinks/trackbacks also? Not sure exactly how this will benefit my fairly new ‘moneymaking’ blog..as I’m trying to create more backlinks for it, so eventually it can attain a page rank. (Correct me if I’m wrong.)
And thanks for visiting me on my blog recently. I’m definitely checking out the cocomment site. :)

    Hi Jocelyn,

Yes, it has generated links to my blog, even before I started playing with it. To get the links though, people will need to follow your posts and add them to their coComment account. It doesn’t necessarily help with trackbacks though, no.

It will help get you some pagerank, but noone should rely on one link building technique alone. If your blog is new I’d concentrate mainly on getting alot of content in there. Once you have it flowing then start finding similar blogs on your same lever and start linking to them. Usually bloggers will return the favor. There are of course many link building techniques but thats a start.

At one point Technorati began to recognize coComment feeds as separate blogs. But quickly backtracked.

I use coComments for some time now and it is great way to track your conversations around the blogosphere.

I believe they are still showing up as backlinks though. I saw a few come through at least. If they’re showing up as blog reactions in the admin panel, I’m guessing they’ll be counted toward the technorati rank.

Thanks, Josh..I still have a lot to learn I know.

I definitely love reading your blog for helpful advice. I’ve added you to my Blogroll, by the way. Check out my side sometime.

Hey Josh, I just picked up your trackback - now that I know both you and Vlad are on Cocomment I shall seek you out there :-)

I’m still having a few bug issues with CC but on the whole I’m pretty pleased with what it does and the links are certainly a positive benefit.

    Jocelyn,

Thanks for the link. I gave you one at http://ez-onlinemoney.com/Link-To-Us.html The main site is ranking on Page #1 on Google for “Make Money Online” right now so you may get a little traffic from it, a good link at least. I just looked at your blog and I saw a few things that really should be changed. I’d like to write a quick review that should help you out if that’s ok with you?

    Maurice,

Thanks for the add, I accepted it. I was looking for the link to add friends and I couldn’t find it last night. I was pretty tired though :)

Thank you all for your cocomment reviews. Just like you said, cocomment lets you track and organize your comments, also it brings traffic to your blog. When you track a comment it brings all of the comments from the blog into cocomment therefore giving exposure to over 300,000 people.
If you have any questions or ideas please contact me at joaquin@cocomment.com
    Thank you!
    Joaquin
