WordPress Affiliate Pro Review

*edit* Hold up, I just found a bug. I’ll explain with an example. I was just linking to another blog using the anchor text “make money online.” This wasn’t an affiliate link and I wasn’t using WP Affiliate Pro. But, since I was using the keyword phrase “make money” to promote an affiliate link with WP Affiliate Pro, the affiliate link canceled out the straight link and replaced it with the affiliate link. So I had to delete that affiliate link and anchor text from WP Affiliate Pro. So, it’s still good, but only if you want to display URL’s. This may be because I’m still using an older version of WordPress though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I purchased WP Affiliate Pro when it was the 2nd or 3rd product DealDotCom offered. I downloaded it, but never got around to messing with it until yesterday because I figured it would be time consuming and I had alot on my plate already. My thought of it being time consuming was extremely inaccurate, as it’s actually a very quick and easy process.

So what is WP Affiliate Pro anyway?

It’s a WordPress plugin that does several things when it comes to affiliate links:

It allows you to insert an affiliate link (or several) and link it to the phrase or URL that you choose. These keywords or URL’s will then of course be linked to by the affiliate link(s) you insert. This works on a site-wide basis, much like contextual advertising, except they are your own affiliate links that you choose and not third-party adverts.

That’s the gist of it and that’s not extremely exciting, but here is where it really gets good:

Pros

1. You can insert whatever URL you want for the status bar. That means no matter what the link is, you decide what you want your visitors to see when their cursor hovers over an affiliate link. That’s very cool!! Not so much for spamming idiots, but for those of us who have morals, but still want to make an affiliate sell or two without the commissions being stolen it’s very cool.

2. You can limit the number of times an affiliate link that you entered appears in each post. That’s good for extremely niche specific keywords that you may have inserted an affiliate link into. If your post is about dog training that phrase will naturally appear loads of times in alot of posts making it look bad. You tell it how many times you want it to appear in each post and it will do just that.

3. Every link is cloaked 100% and every click is tracked inside your back panel. No more worries about link cloakers or redirects; no more worries about click tracking for your affiliate links, it’s all in your WordPress admin panel now.

There are a few more neat features, but those are the ones I really liked.

Cons

The only thing I’ve found so far that I don’t like is the fact that the status bar link doesn’t work on all versions. They are aware of the issue though and they do let you know in the videos you receive when you purchase the product. I haven’t installed the new version of WordPress yet, but I’d imagine it will work with that. As it stands it doesn’t work with WordPress 2.1 at least it’s not for me. When I say it doesn’t work, I’m referring only to the status bar feature, not the plugin as a whole.

*edit* One other thing that I would love to see implemented is the option of inserting the rel=”nofollow” attribute into the affiliate links. It’s not that big of a deal, most bloggers don’t use it anyway, but to some of us it’s important. I like to nofollow affiliate links and other links that do not need link juice so i can preserve that link juice for my other pages and your comment links.

Conclusion

Awesome WordPress plugin!! If you do any affiliate marketing with your blog, you’re honestly missing out if you don’t have this one! For those of you who regularly read this blog, you know I don’t promote products because they have a good affiliate program, I promote them because I honestly recommend them!

Yep, that’s me. I’ve been a Warrioraholic for a while now I don’t think I’ve ever posted in the new copywriting forum though.

The link cloaking is only one benefit of WPaffiliatePro, but to each his own.

Hey Josh,

Thanks for the review.

I am adding the request into the coding update now to be able to do no-follow’s as you have requested.

Will also be adding in the ability to do internal linking based on the keyword of course. This way you can automatically increase your internal linking efforts if you choose.

Interesting… What’s going to stop people from replacing their clickbank ID with yours because when I clicked on http://www.wpaffiliatepro.com/ within your post the it goes to the product page and the url is http://www.wpaffiliatepro.com/?hop=jspauld

You’re right. With CB theres no way to prevent that. Just another reason we should get away from CB.
